SALA 2018 - Notans
For SALA 2018, the Goodwood Road Business Association presented a collection of Notan artworks created by SALA artists exhibiting in Goodwood Road businesses.

Notan is a Japanese word meaning “Light-dark balance”. The artworks are created by cutting shapes from a rectangle and flipping these. Each artist was invited to create a work using this Notan practice.

Six artworks were presented:
“Joy” by Karen Puttock
“Eco Entwined” by Brooke Goyne
“On a whim” by Kylie Nichols
“The diligent bureaucrat” by Aiyudot Khom
 “Swallows” by Alli Symons
“Wild Technology” by Dulce Maria Diaz-Llanos Montes

The image below shows the last four of these.

#Capri75

An installation of all things cinema in celebration of the Capri Theatre's 75th birthday. A movie projector, made from an old travel case and real reels projects images of movie star greats. The words #Capri75 are written using 35mm film kindly supplied by the Capri.

The movie star images are made from 1152 plastic cups, each painted one of eight colours. The images are designed so that the cups can be rearranged to make an image of another movie star. Here we see Marilyn Monroe morph into James Dean into Groucho Marx.

Here are some close ups of the painted cups used to create each image.
